tonestro.com is the website of tonestro, the music school that listens: one app for 13 instruments that hears every note you play. - tonestro is a music school in an app for 13 instruments: piano, violin, saxophone, cello, guitar, trumpet, flute, clarinet, trombone, recorder, horn, euphonium and tuba.
- You play your own instrument (for piano: a piano or a keyboard). tonestro listens through the microphone of the phone or tablet (no cable) and gives real-time feedback on pitch and rhythm: right notes turn green, notes that were off turn red.
- Promise: the music school that listens, your first song in 10 minutes. The first song means playing a few notes along with a real song and a band; full speed comes later.
- Courses are made by music teachers. Piano has a Beginner and an Advanced course. Horn, euphonium and tuba have songs with backing music and a theory course, not a full step-by-step course.
- Practice tools: songs with backing music, practice at 80% or 60% speed, a built-in tuner, fingering charts for most instruments, and a weekly challenge with musicians worldwide.
- Devices: iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or newer) and Android phones (Android 8 or newer with at least 4 GB of memory); an internet connection is required. Piano and guitar run on iPhone and iPad.
- Free trial: 7 days free with the yearly plan; it turns into the paid yearly plan unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends (in the app under Profile → Settings → Manage Subscription).
- Family Plan: one subscription for up to six people; everyone has their own account, instrument and progress. Members join with an invite code or link.
- Free sheet music previews and fingering charts for the wind and string instruments are on tonestro.com in ten languages.
- tonestro is developed by fun.music IT GmbH, a team of six in Upper Austria (four founders and two music teachers). It started in 2017; the app has been live since 2020.
